I am trading rarely because I have recently had very little time available for sand trading. Hence, many sand packages sent to me are still waiting to be analysed and entered into the database. However, if you have something very interesting, I can find time for that 🙂
I am a sand collector and I also swap sand samples with other collectors. Here is some info for those of you who would like to trade with me. I offer my sand samples in 30 ml quantity like most sand collectors do. However, I can swap smaller amounts if you wish so. I have no strict requirements for the quantity. I am happy with even one gram if the sand is interesting. I also accept donations. Please drop me an email if you wish to trade with me.
My interests are mainly geological. It means that I am especially after the sand samples that contain something interesting. What is interesting for me? Heavy minerals, other exotic minerals or rock fragments, biogenic sand with well preserved shells, artificial sand or mineral concentrates, unusual or unknown minerals, geologically interesting collecting place, remote locations, etc. Usually every bit of (geological) information tremendously increases the value of sand and often sparks my interest.
It would be very helpful if you have correct geographical coordinates or at least as exact and unambiguous location details as possible. Using GPS is the best method for taking coordinates but it can be successfully done later with the help of Google Maps. All it takes is your ability to locate the correct collecting place on the map. Finding coordinates is very easy. Here is a short how-to tutorial:
- Open Google Maps (maps.google.com).
- Pan and zoom to find the correct location where you collected your sample.
- Make a right-click on the spot of collection.
- Choose the last option from a pop-up list and click it (it is named “What’s here?”).
- Now the coordinates appeared in the search window above. Simply copy-paste and send them to me.
I generally wish to keep my sand parcels below 1 kg (or 500 grams) weight to optimize shipping costs. It is approximately 18 (9) sand samples, each 30 ml.
If you are interested, take a look at my tradelist (temporarily unavailable).
Here is the list of people who have contributed to my sand collection. Thanks! Some sand samples are links. In this case I have written an article to describe them in detail.
